Route Description: Arlington-Sumas-BirchBay-Arlington

We will start in Arlington, visit Darrington, Marblemount, Sedro Woolley, then head north to Sumas, our turn around point, we will then head west to Birch Bay. We will head south along the water, thru Bellingham, down Chuckanut Drive, thru the flats near Padilla and Skagit Bay and then head east and return to Arlington.

Directions:

I-5 exit 208 (Pioneer Hwy E / SR 530 Exit), then east on SR 530 toward Arlington for 500 feet.   First you will see Denny's on the right, then the parking area where we will start from, then the Arlington Motor Inn.

If you are traveling a long distance, you might want to come up on Friday night and get a room at the inn.

Preparedness:

Do not be fooled by the fact that this ride will be in May. In 1999 finishers were the ones wearing full tights, booties, wool jerseys, rain jackets and wind blocking gloves. Many stopped along the route to purchase vinyl coated work gloves. I would suggest reading the ride reports from the archives:

Post Ride:
We will have several rooms at the Arlington Motor Inn for riders to take naps in, so that they can drive home safely. I would suggest that you bring your own towel and a change of clothes so you can take a shower.

Entry Fee: $25 SIR members, $35 non-members. Please make all entry and membership fees payable to SIR. Medals are $10 and are only available to SIR members.

Reminder: All riders are reminded that any failure to conduct the ride in accordance with SIR Brevet Rider Expectations, RUSA rules, applicable laws, or any special instructions or equipment requirements for this ride may result in a time penalty or disqualification.
